The Moderating Effects of Mother¡¯s Sensitivity and Emotional Expressiveness on the Relationship between Pre-schooler¡¯s Shyness and Communication with Peers

|
The purpose of the study is to examine the moderating effects of mother¡¯s sensitivity and emotional expressiveness on the relationship between pre-schooler¡¯s shyness and communication with peers. To achieve this goal, questionnaire was administered to 367 pre-schoolers aged from 3 to 6 years and their mothers. The data were analyzed by means of SPSS 24.0. The main result of the study are as follows. The moderating effects of mother¡¯s sensitivity and emotional expensiveness were found to exist in pre-schooler¡¯s shyness and communication with peers. In other words, it was found that if a mother¡¯s sensitivity and emotional expensiveness levels are high, this is reflected in pre-schoolers with high shyness and high levels of communication with peers. This study suggests that mother¡¯s sensitivity and emotional expensiveness play a very important role in communication with peers amongst shy pre-schooler.
