The Moderating Effects of Mother’s Sensitivity and Emotional Expressiveness on the Relationship between Pre-schooler’s Shyness and Communication with Peers

|
The purpose of the study is to examine the moderating effects of mother’s sensitivity and emotional expressiveness on the relationship between pre-schooler’s shyness and communication with peers. To achieve this goal, questionnaire was administered to 367 pre-schoolers aged from 3 to 6 years and their mothers. The data were analyzed by means of SPSS 24.0. The main result of the study are as follows. The moderating effects of mother’s sensitivity and emotional expensiveness were found to exist in pre-schooler’s shyness and communication with peers. In other words, it was found that if a mother’s sensitivity and emotional expensiveness levels are high, this is reflected in pre-schoolers with high shyness and high levels of communication with peers. This study suggests that mother’s sensitivity and emotional expensiveness play a very important role in communication with peers amongst shy pre-schooler.
